Cubans are one of my favorite sandwiches to get out at a restaurant if they offer it. I love the idea of adding even more depth and flavor to a Cuban by using Mendocino Spices Al Pastor Seasoning for the pulled pork. The sweetness from the pulled pork cuts all the acidity from the mustard and pickles which leaves you with a balanced and tangy Cuban. Seasoning the butter mixture with Mendocino Spices and some fresh ingredients elevates this slider to another level that will have people licking their fingers! Of course, you can make a traditional Cuban with these ingredients, but making them into sliders worked out for entertaining during football season. After all, entertaining is way easier with Mendocino Spices!
6 tbsp unsalted butter
1 ½ tbsp fresh parsley
½ tsp Mendocino Spices Ground Oregano
½ tsp Mendocino Spices Ground Cumin
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 tsp lime zest
1 tsp orange zest
Mendocino Spices All-Purpose Seasoning
18 oz Al Pastor Pulled Pork
1 15 oz package potato rolls, halved
8 oz deli ham, thinly sliced
8 oz dill pickle slices
8 oz swiss cheese
¼ cup mustard
– Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
– Melt the butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Add the parsley, garlic, Mendocino Spices, and zest of the lime and orange. Continue stirring until flavors are fragrant, about one minute. Season with Mendocino Spices All-Purpose Seasoning.
– Spread some of the butter mixture on the bottom of a 9-by-13-inch baking dish, then place the bottom half of the rolls on the butter. Top the roll bottoms with the ham, then the pork, then the pickle slices, and finally the cheese. Spread the mustard on the underside of the roll tops, then lay the roll tops on top of the cheese. Pour the remaining butter mixture over the top of the rolls.
– Cover the baking loosely with foil and bake for 20 to 25 minutes. Uncover and bake until the top is golden brown, about another 5 minutes.
– Serve immediately and cut sliders with a pizza cutter or large knife. Scoop sliders out of casserole dish with a spatula.
