Making homemade hot sauce sounds like a daunting task, and for some people this might sound silly because, of course, you can just buy hot sauce at the store! But oh man when you put the work into making this hot sauce, you will not want to buy store bought again. You will want to put this on everything from eggs to fries to tacos and even pizza. Also, because you are the one making this hot sauce, you can adjust the heat by taking down the number of De Arbol Chiles used or add more. Customization is key when cooking with Pepitos Chilitos and Mendocino Spices, because you can always add heat, but you can’t take it away so be sure to proceed with caution when you’re making this hot sauce or adding it to your favorite foods.
20-25 Pepitos Chilitos Chile de Arbol
5-6 cloves of garlic, minced
2 tbsp oil
1/4 vinegar
1/2 chile water
1 tbsp Mendocino Spices Ground Paprika
2 tsp Mendocino Spices Onion Powder
2 tsp Mendocino Spices Garlic Powder
2 tsp Mendocino Spices Ground Cumin
1 tsp salt
1. In a small pot rehydrate Pepitos Chilitos with boiling water and cover with a lid for 20 minutes.
2. In a small pan over medium-low heat, sauté garlic in oil until golden in color.
3. Blend Pepitos Chilitos, garlic, water, Mendocino Spices, and salt.
4. Drain hot sauce through a fine mesh sieve (optional) and transfer to a squeeze bottle.
